In M10 we re-introduced the POP aggregation feature in Windows Live Hotmail. This feature is not about accessing your Hotmail messages using POP3 protocol but using your other POP3 enabled email accounts from within the Hotmail’s rich and famous web interface. Once configured, your external mails can be “aggregated” or pulled into your Hotmail mailbox. You can add up to four external POP3 mail accounts and let Hotmail aggregate the messages from those accounts and show them in your Hotmail inbox with click of just one button. You can either leave them in your Inbox and be distinguished by different colored icons, or better yet, create custom filters to automatically route those messages into separate folders (how can anyone use an email system without folders?). You can go to Automatically sort e-mail messages into folders to create a custom filter for your POP messages.
While developing this feature, I continuously kept the user’s perspective in mind. Adding not just a “feature” but a “useful feature” was the top priority. At the cost of high bandwidth usage and risk of talking to unknown, unreliable POP3 servers, we kept all the security concerns in mind and tried to deliver a significantly useful option for those who use more than one email account. I personally loved this feature when I was simply a user of Hotmail and was not part of the development team. It lets me see my mails from different accounts into one web based mail. The option of leaving a copy of original messages on the POP3 servers gives me flexibility to use in tandem with POP3 clients. Now you should have no need to install and configure POP3 clients for your other email accounts, especially useful on public computers. And since Hotmail lets you send mails from these accounts as well, you would never need to use any other email client.
At this point, it’s available only to paid users (plus some partner users, university program users). We’d love to offer it to free users in the future, so we’re looking into that and may do so at some time in the future. To try POP aggregation, go to Options->Send receive mail from other email accounts and click on “Add a POP3 account”. Once configured, go to your Inbox and you will see a POP button. Clicking the POP in the inbox will check for new Hotmail messages as well as messages from your POP accounts.
The feature is just at its beginning, we have planned to add many more bells and whistles in the coming Hotmail releases. Stay tuned and keep loving Windows Live Hotmail.

So you say that "At this point, it’s available only to paid users", yet there\’s no place to sign-up for paid accounts…!
You can, at join.msn.com. However, the access only through http is silly. open up for imap and more user will consider getting live hotmail.

hey wat up? i wanna talk to all yall people!!!
POP service fails where POP3 and SMTP require authentication. There is no menu option on the Hotmail side, nor a procedure, for implementing authentication. Hotmail\’s POP service is useless without it.
only to paid users? I\’m a free user, so i can\’t have right? too bad. Gmail give all that and more for free…
what about spam message at the bottom of all mail?? This is unwanted pub! i consider that spam! please remove it!
Set filter "If subject contains PayPal then delete it." Filter does not work. I use this type of filter on all my email accounts since PayPal is a magnet for scams of all kinds and I do not have an account with them.
i want a me@live.com email address
needed features for win live hotmail:
- @live.com
- No hotmail spam message at the bottom of all messages (Please, i need to send serious mails, not "yada yada download me". This makes e-mails look cluncky and ugly, and for formal mails it just give a bad impression of the user (i can\’t send my CV and telling people to download messenger!! Please!!)
- Pop3
- No today page (it\’s mail i want, not britney news! Please, i hate it, i don\’t like pink magazines, and i don\’t like today page! At least make it an option)
- Make it for free (gmail give us all that for free, why should i pay?)…
- Great work, but please keep the layout simple and clean
Where is the ITALIAN version?

HOW ABOUT FIXING IT FIRST … and sorting it out … I have only one contact I email regularly ..usually about 12 times a day.
TODAY I Have sent 117 messages …. yeh, right … The other day I could not post anything as I had apparently gone over my daily limit , and had sent 246 messages ..so what the hell is going on ,folks at MS ? ?
And can I rollback to an earlier version as this one totally, TOTALLY STINKS17 April 17:40
Could you please remove spam message at the bottom of all mail? It is really awful !!!
well i enjoy everything that i have with hotmail. this is very cool
Free POP3 (both send and receive)
Free POP3 Outlook integration
Gmail gives that for free
c\’mon live team, get yout act together,
I\’m having lots of problems with this frustrating spam check, especially the audio part. When you rolled out M10, I had the same problem. After some weeks, I\’m now having the same problem. Why are you after us to such an extent?! Instead of simplifying things, you are making them more difficult and frustrating! Please do something about it, else I\’m definitely stopping to use WLH forever.
We don\’t want POP3, its crap. what we want is IMAP,
IMAP is tonnes better
i used AOL free email for a while with IMAP for free and it was brilliant
Windows Live Hotmail is what i now use cos its fantastic, blows away Gmail and Yahoo
To the other (no name) below me, sorry dude but Yahoo! Mail is going to kick Gmail\’s and Hotmail\’s as*, especially when there will be unlimited storage capability – for free. It\’s coming next month!! And I darn sure would love to see Live Mail (please brand it – again (!) – Live Mail) to have the same!
When will you add RTL support in the English interface? Please, that\’s all I miss…
all i ask is: Please remove the message from the bottom of all sent messages… please!! I really don\’t like people to get my mails full of pub! please
nobody likes that, we like it clean and simple, just like we wrote it… like in gmail!
yeah please get rid of the advert at the bottom of my mails, I know you want us to use windows live mail desktop but I really have no need for it. I can\’t send professional emails to prospective employers with Rate your skiving credentials with our Slack-o-meter or Exclusive Ed Byrne daily comedy clips on MSN Video at the bottom of it; i do not want to sign up for a gmail account and the amount of time i use on email does not justfy spending money removing the ads.
Hey, i want to be able to choose if to use the \’nick name\’ field as the display in the contacts, when i upload the contacts from outlook using this new program (nice), it uses what i mentioned as a nick name.. so also if before i didn\’t say this contact has a nick name and already had it on the live contacts it was under the full name, so when i imported the contacts now, it was like a duplicate..
by the way, if there are no adds anywhere, where is your profit?..
yaron… look at gmail. No adds on messages, and they do lots of profit, they don\’t put adds on messages, like many mails service don\’t do. Hotmail already have lots of adds and banners on mail (on top, on side, on today page, on the left side, and others). The messages with pub are really a very bad thing, specially for who don\’t like adds and spams!!! This is spam, i hate it. Gmail don\’t have banners, don\’t have adds on messages, just related links on the side of messages. If hotmail likes to use banners and giant stuff that\’s ok (ugly, but ok…), but please, not on our personal messages….
Hey.. you know that the attatch photos tool is trying to activate an activeX tool that your internet explorer (microsoft) doesn\’t like.
When will Windows Live Mail alert about new mails on ICQ?
(i exaggerated this time ah lol? )
and when will we see msn integration with other im\’s? icq, jabber, google talk…. microsoft self policy sucks! We want open software, like our open minds…
I don\’t care about the banner ads, they are better than my email being scanned for keywords. And besides, Gmails ads can take up more room than Hotmails! Especially when there are more than 5 "sponsored links".. And that web clips bar in Gmail is a joke, that displays more ads than requested feeds. People say Gmail has less ads than Hotmail but they don\’t have a clue.Just get rid of the ads at the bottom of my sent messages, that is so wrong.Ta…
COMO HAGO PARA ACCESAR A WINDOW LIVE CONVERSACION PARA COMUNICARME CON LAS DEMS PERSONAS O CONTACTOS
Is a miss that you can get accesability to the features of WLHM
throughout the keyboard… for example: up and down key (or left and
right) to go to the previous or next email… All was designed to be
accessed with the mouse… and cut you the faster of using a combo of
mouse+keyboard feature…
I hope the hotmail will spupport POP and SMTP.
Nice feature, but if you use only an email client such as outlook express, it is completely useless because it will not download emails from your pop3 account automatically. You must use the Hotmail interface and click the POP button.
Gmail will download emails automatically, but you cannot adjust the frequency, therefore making it unreliable, useless.
Im not happy with this and I want you to tell me why I have to change now my email is kpocialik@msn.com. also Im being told
that you no longer except http . thats a problem to me.
It would be nice if the "new improved hotmail" didn\’t have incoming e-mails with a time-stamp that is SIX HOURS OFF, and a way to correct that obvious instead of impossible, and a tech support hot line number, and…
Not sure if you guys are still reading these comments, but when Live Hotmail downloads POP3 messages, it doesn\’t use the "Date:" field. Instead, it stamps the messages with the time it downloaded them. Seems like a bug to me, and one I\’d really like to see fixed. The product looks really good so far.Thanks.
just got a new iphone and I\’m trying to set up my windows live hotmail account (which is a .msn.com address) as the "other" email acount, since hotmail isn\’t a default (even though Yahoo and gmail are). how do i do this? I assumed it was using pop3.live.com and smtp.live.com along with my regular windows live hotmail user name and password, but that doesn\’t seem to be working. Any suggestions? I\’m desperate, because when i try to use windows live hotmail on the phone just by navagating through the safari browser, it is WAY WAY to slow, even in classic form. so, I\’m hoping i can integrate within the mail tail. Help me!!!
I\’m not sure what happened, but I can\’t get on my hotmail anymore, since you changed to live?????
